Hostels in Myanmar

"The funky Dodo is in a perfect location for exploring the charming town of Hopkins. It's a wonderful hostel. We had a private room with really great beds and a nice, large room. It's close to the beach and close to great restaurants and bars. You can also cook for yourself. We had a wonderful four-day stay here."

WiFi kan beter maar weet niet of dat aan het hostel ligt of aan de provider.

"Schoon rustig hostal. Met gebruik van keuken en wasmachine. Airco. Contant gepast betalen. Kreeg naam voor een driver/gids: smooth operators, heel goed bevallen."

De ligging was verder uit het centrum dan ik ingeschat had. Openbaar vervoer is niet zo best.

"Sociaal, schoon hostel van alle gemakken voorzien. De eigenaar is geweldig. Heb hier een aantal leuke mensen ontmoet. Goede locatie ook."

"Vriendelijke en behulpzame eigenaar. Hij is erg gastvrij en doet zijn best om met weinig middelen een fijn verblijf aan te bieden. De kritische opmerkingen zijn ook niet bedoeld als negatief, maar als eerlijke opmerking voor wat je kunt verwachten."

De badkamers waren schoon, maar de douchekop kon je nergens ophangen. Geen WiFi, net als in de rest van Oost-Timor, dus zorg voor een Timorese simkaart.

"The location sits on main public transit options; Bus stop, METRO station, and one street away a main connecting street offering additional public bus stops & connections. A short walk uphill lands you at a central interception from which all directions of pedestrian pathways are possible to explore the city and sights."

Food shops & markets in the district are regionally expensive. The area for basic cold food storage and microwave reheating of food needs a serious update. For the number of guests the refrigerator is way to small. The small microwave does not fit common delivery food packages, or a standard dinner plate for reheating.

"De jeugdherberg is mooi gelegen. Van daar kan je wandelingen maken en uitstappen met de bus, in Liechtenstein of over de grens. De tweepersoonskamer heeft een eigen badkamer, goede bedden, een gerieflijke kast, twee kleine tafeltjes als nachtkastjes, een grotere tafel en een ongemakkelijk zitje. Maar er zijn veel zitgelegenhden in het mooie ruime gebouw. Het eten is er goed."

"Eerste keer een hostel. Was alleen op reis was erg eenzaam. Masr in de buitentuin leerde ik snel mensen kennen. Ook de vrouwen zaal was echt fijn. Ik vond het een hele fijne plek. Ben er 3 nachten geweest."

Wifi was very poor both in the living room and the private bedroom. I struggled connecting for work. I can't say that this was good value for money considering how far it was from Lugano city centre and all other activity spots. I didn't have breakfast, because it was another 20 francs on top of everything else and that wasn't really ideal for someone travelling on a budget.

"Personeel was heel aardig en behulpzaam. Goede locatie in Milaflores en faciliteiten zoals ontbijt zijn goed."

Douche was lauw en de muren zijn dun. Dus je hoort de kamers naast je wel goed.

"Gekozen omwille van de locatie en de prijs. St. Pancras treinstation ligt op enkele minuten wandelen. De prijs-kwaliteitverhouding is zeer zeker in orde. We hadden een aparte kamer voor twee personen met stapelbed. Ik heb heerlijk geslapen ─ mijn bestie iets minder, zij vond het bed iets te hard. De kamer heeft geen stoel of tafel, enkel het bed. Omdat de onderste matras wat breder is en uitsteekt, kan je die wel gebruiken om even te gaan zitten. Er is een smalle kleerkast aanwezig met enkele kleerhangers. Verder heeft de kamer ook een kleine lavabo en een vuilnisbak. Het ontbijt is basic. Doordat de ontbijtruimte met keuken beperkt van omvang is en ook wordt gebruikt door reizigers die zelf hun maaltijden bereiden - wat ok is voor alle duidelijkheid - verloopt het in het keukengedeelte chaotischer. Het personeel was erg vriendelijk."

"Het hostel was schoon, onze kamer zat tegen over de douches en wc's. Dit was top geen last van gehad. Daarnaast ligt het hostel een beetje van het centrum af maar de metro verbinding is top. Wij kwamen na middernacht aan maar het was nog mogelijk om in te checken!!"

Onze kamer had geen raam waardoor het na het slapen muf en stonk. Het was moeilijk om de guur uit de kamer te krijgen. De enige oplossing was door de deur naar de gang open te zetten. Veder rest was het hostel uitermate uitstekend!!

"Heel vriendelijk personeel dat je helpt met alles. De kamer en badkamer was proper en het bed comfortabel. Via het hostel kan je e-scooters huren en ze kunnen ook transfers voor je regelen. Echt een aan te raden hostel met een gezellige sfeer."

"It's a cozy hostel with a nice common area, warm shower, enough space everywhere, a small breakfast included, in a nice neighbourhood more relaxed than Old Dhaka, and reasonably close to the metro into the city centre (walkable, or take a rickshaw). It's also close enough to the airport and railway station (by tuktuk or Uber). It has nice restaurants nearby, coffee places and Western fastfood options if you're into that. It is well worth the price of a bed, and probably the only good option in the country if you are a solo traveler/backpacker and you want to meet other travelers. Armin, who manages the Hostel, is a friendly, easy-going guy, and helpful."

The mattresses are a little thin, but to be honest, that was the case in most places in Bangladesh. Don't expect the Hilton when it comes to cleanliness, and you'll be fine.
